Shahpur, 22 Apr – A two day workshop on film appreciation organised by Media Society was inaugurated at the Temporary Academic Block of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, 22nd April 2014. Film maker Mr. Ramesh Sharma, known for his award winning films and documentaries, addressed the gathering of students during the inaugural session of the workshop today. Addressing the students, he said that film is the most complex art form which brings together several aspects of different art forms like painting, music and theater. Screening the works of classic film makers like Sergei Eisenstein, he talked about the power of film to create a third dimension of visual experience to the audience. “The technique of montage which puts together unrelated visuals together to create a different meaning, has made the film a powerful medium”, he said. Inaugurating the two day workshop, Vice Chancellor Prof. Furqan Qamar said that apart from its creative potential and artistic quality, film is also amazing for the kind of team work behind producing it. “As a student of management, I am always amazed about the kind of management and team work that goes into the production of films”, he said. During the first sessions of the workshop, scenes from classic films like ‘An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge’, ‘Battleship Potemkin’ and ‘Godfather’ were screened. The workshop will conclude tomorrow.
