Mr Ramanth Kovind, the NDA led Presidential Candidate will be filing his nomination papers today. The Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi, along with the Chief Ministers of the BJP ruled states will be present on the occasion along with some of the Southern parties being expected to make their presence felt on this day. It is expected to be an all out show of strength by the NDA, with four sets of papers being filed by the nominee. BJP President Amit Shah will also be present when Kovind files his papers, as will the Telangana and Tamil Nadu chief ministers, two leaders from non-NDA parties supporting Kovind. Mr Kovind who enjoys the support of the BJP, besides the NDA’s constituents, which comprise over 48.6 per cent of votes in the electoral college that will elect the next president, regional parties such as the AIADMK, BJD, TRS and JD(U) have announced their support to the Dalit leader, making his win an almost foregone conclusion. After the filing of the papers Mr Kovind will be launching his Presidential campaign.
On the other hand, the Congress led group of opposition parties have declared Ms Miera Kumar, a former Speaker of the assembly and a long standing MP, as their choice of the Presidential candidate, and is expected to file her nomination papers by the 27th June 2017.
