The National Green Tribunal (NGT) headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar has pulled up, both, the Shimla Municipal Corporation and the project proponent of Waste to Energy Plant, M/s Elephant Energy Private Limited, for not working in tandem and blaming each other for non-cooperation. This has resulted in ineffeciency of both collection of solid waste in the region as well as the processing of the same for conversion into energy by the project proponent. Justice Swatanter Kumar has directed both the parties to get over with their differences as it is like to effect both the environment and the public at large. He has directed the project proponent M/s Elephant Energy Pvt. Ltd. to get the pant operational by 15th July 2017 where after they shall be held liable to pay a penalty amounting to Rs 1 Lakh per day towards environment compensation. At the same time it has also directed the Shimla, MC to cooperated with the project proponent in order to ensure that the project gets operational by the 15th July 2017.
