MANALI-CHANDIGARH VIA SHIMLA CYCLING:“Yeh mera India, I Love my India”

Continuing with the spirit of achieving  greater heights and putting to test  the Youth power of India, 20 Senior Wing  NCC cadets set out for a treacherous Mountain Terrain Cycling expedition “Yeh mera India, I Love my India” , from Manali to Chandigarh Via Shimla today. The expedition  is being conducted under the aegis of DGNCC. The team will be covering a distance of approximately 400 Km, traversing through the pristine environs of Himachal Pradesh, over steep slopes and declines, thus show casing the spirit and power of the Youth of India and their Love for their motherland. The expedition was flagged off by Lt General Bhupender Singh Thakur, Retd, Ex Vice Chief Of Army Staff.

The expedition has been planned with the aim of inculcating bonhomie, national Integration and spirit of adventure amongst the youth and populace enroute, as also to spread awareness about NCC in the remote areas of Himachal Pradesh. Such a feat has never been attempted before by NCC cadets . The treacherous mountain is an acid test for both man machine. streams flowing over muddy roads, Landslides, rain and steep climbs put together are all awaiting to challenge these 20 brave hearts from the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh. On an average the team will cycle 50 to 70 KM in a day, which is in itself a mammoth task in the mountains terrain.

During the expedition the Team will interact with NCC cadets, school students and civilians, spreading the message of national integration , love and brotherhood..            Selection and training of expedition members commenced two months back. All expedition members have been put through a rigorous 8 weeks training schedule, to ensure their fitness for the hard ride ahead. Cadets from the states/UT of Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh are participating in the event. Besides physical training each cadet  has undergone rigorous medical tests to ensure complete fitness for the expedition,  flagging in  on 23 October 2013 at Chandigarh.
