Kumble opts out of Windies tour at the last moment

It is reported that after the defeat in the Champions Trophy, in England, at the hands of Pakistan, Team India, which was to leave for the Windies tour directly from there, will now be doing so without their coach Anil Kumble, who backed out at the last moment citing a meeting with the ICC, that he needs to attend, and would join the team later on, after the meeting.

It may be recalled that the decision for the nomination of chief coach of the Indian team, has,now been pending for quite some time. The committee, as constituted by the Hon’ble Supreme court of India, headed by Mr Vinod Rai, had declared that Anil Kumble would continue as the Coach of the Indian team for the Windies tour, as the committee had cited need for time, as the reason in order to arrive at a consensus on the issue. In all six applicants have applied for the coveted post of which Virender Sehwag is one of the contenders. Although Virat Kohli is in favour of Ravi Shastri as the coach, the BCCI had already made it clear that the captain can only put in a suggestion but does not have a role in the selection process. According to Mr CK Khanna, working President of the BCCI, who ever is selected for the post will need to continue till the 2019 World Cup.
