HPPERC to grant approval of courses by private universities

11 July Shimla :Smt. Sarojini G. Thakur, Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission (HPPERC) said here today that the powers to grant course approvals had been vested by the State Government in the HPPERC only from academic session 2013-14.
She said that in fact while according approval for the academic session 2013-14 the running of existing as well as new courses was subject to the clear terms and conditions that the University shall observe the eligibility criteria, minimum standard of instructions and prescribed norms for the running of a course, programme, grant of degree which shall be imparted by a duly qualified teaching staff and appropriate academic physical infrastructure facilities as prescribed by the relevant regulatory bodies such as UGC/AICTE/PCI/BCI etc.
Smt. Thakur said that the Commission had consciously reduced the intake of M. Pharma from 72 to 18 in respect of Baddi University in 2013-14 besides pursuant to the inspection conducted by HPPERC, the Baddi University was directed to obtain the final approval in respect of B. Pharmacy course under Section 12 of Pharmacy Council of India Act which was pending as final approval of PCI was a must for registration of students with State Pharmacy
Council.
She said that the degree displayed and award in the news appeared in a section of press today had been issued by H.P. University which was not within the purview of HPPERC adding that commencement of this degree pertains to a period when even Baddi University was not in existence.
