Horticulture Minister Smt. Vidya Stokes said that a meeting of Fruit
Growers Association, Progressive Farmers, Fruit Commission Agents,
Cardboard Carton Manufacturers etc. has been convened on 26th November,
2014 at Shimla to discuss various issues pertaining to the apple growers.
Smt. Stokes said that State Government was committed to bring necessary
reforms in horticulture sector especially to strengthen the apple economy
of the State.
She said that the issue of middle men exploiting apple growers by
compelling them to overfill cardboard cartons will be discussed during the
meeting and an amicable solution to this long pending demand of the apple
growers would be sought. She said that the Government intends to introduce
new cardboard cartons, developed by Indian Institute of Packaging (Ministry
of Commerce, Government of India) for which a sum of Rs. 10,90, 903 was
Horticulture Minister said that the issue of compulsory bank guarantee from
all fruit commission agents operating in Himachal would also be discussed.
The Government will encash the pledged bank guarantee in case a commission
agent shuts shops and flees without paying the farmers, thus ensuring
financial security to the farmers of this State, she added.
