Government committed to effectively deal with monkey menace

Shri Kewal Singh Pathania, Vice Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Forest
Development Corporation said here today that the State government was
taking effective measures to deal with monkey menace and a multi-pronged
strategy was being adopted so that besides preventing damages to standing
crops, the common people could be saved from nuisance by the wild animals.
Shri Pathania said that Shri Thakur Singh Bharmouri, Forest Minister has
assured that the State Government would bring a resolution in the next
Vidhan Sabha session seeking permission for lifting ban on export of
monkeys. This would be bring a great respite to the people of the State
shall be relieved.
He said that government was concerned about recent incidents of monkey
menace in various parts of the State. He said that the government had
taken comprehensive steps as per the international norms to check this
menace. He said that more than 85,000 monkeys were sterilized till date
through seven monkey sterilization centres. This programme would be
expanded to more areas of the State.
The government would explore the possibilities for fencing of agricultural
fields of the farmers in subsidized form to prevent them from wild animals.
The government had also put up hoardings to discourage pilgrims from
feeding monkeys and stray animals around highways.
