It turned out to be a disastrous final at the Oval yesterday when, despite having won the toss, our chasers just gave in meekly to the determined Pakis, who definitely executed the game to a set game plan, as it seemed to be. Nothing, just nothing seemed to work for the Indians at the Oval starting with the unfortunate no ball incident followed up with some clumsy misses on run out chances, and to top it all our star spinners having been taken for a spin by the Paki batsmen, who on the other hand exhibited semblance of respect for the only successful pacer Bhuvneshar Prasad, and the fact that even though the Boom boom Bhumra faired well during the death overs it was an un-retrievable situation that the Indians had got themselves into, despite a brave innings by Hardik Pandya, towards the end of the Indian innings. On the other hand our Hockey stalwarts put the Pakis in place by having defeated them 7 nil in the finals. Playing with black bands around their arms conveying solidarity with the Indian Martyrs, there was no such exhibition of solidarity by the Cricketing blues, which has not gone well with the populace of the country. Our shuttler Kidambi Srikanth too did the country proud by winning the Honours at the Indonesia Open men’s singles trophy defeating his Japanese counterpart, world number 47 Kazumasa Sakai . It is worth noting that a game for which millions are spent on sponsorship’s, advertisements, TV coverage etc. just made a joke of everything, their performance and the attitude on the field was just casual to say the least, where as the underdog games like Hockey, and Badminton brought laurels for the country. Kudos to them.
