Tourism Day Celebrations starts at CUHP

Tourism day celebration kicks off today on Friday 20th September 2013 with the inaugural function held at the Temporary Academic Block (TAB) at Shahpur. The Tourism Society at the Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) is celebrating the tourism week from Friday, 20th September 2013 to Friday, 27th September 2013 based on the theme – ‘Tourism and Water: Protecting our Common Future’. Vice Chancellor Prof. Furqan Qamar was the special guest of the occasion.

Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Yoginder Singh Verma in his Inaugural Speech said that the main aim of this celebration is to bring sweeping change of attitude among the key actors in local, national and global tourism for peace, security and sustainable development. “Developing a prosperous, healthy and cultured society to have humanity and common future globally is the purpose of the celebration,” he said. He beautifully explained the concept of Tourism and Water Conservation.

Collage making competition, Photo Caption competition and Rangoli competition were organised for students today. Word Tourism Day is celebrated annually on 27th September to create awareness among the international community about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.

Prof H R Sharma, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Roshan Lal Sharma, Proctor, Deans of different Schools, Heads of the departments, faculty members, Dr. Suman Sharma, Convener, Tourism Society, students and participants of different  universities and institutions were present in the function. Almost 45 teams participated in this event from various schools, colleges and other universities. As part of the tourism week celebrations at CUHP, Tourism Society is organising different competitions and awareness programmes.
