Salaries of ECHS doctors hiked

The Centre has enhanced the remuneration of doctors engaged with the Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) that provides medicare to about 52 lakh veterans servicemen and their dependants across the country. According to orders issued by the Department of Ex-servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence, the monthly remuneration of medical officers, dental officers and officers-in-charge of ECHS polyclinics has been enhanced from Rs 60,000 to Rs 75,000. Medical specialists will now get Rs 87,500 for the first year of the contract and Rs 1 lakh for the second year. Earlier, they were entitled to Rs 70,000 and Rs 80,000, respectively. The new pay scales are applicable from August 16, 2017.
