Role of Earth Sciences in Preventing Environmental Degradation-A debate in central university

The School of Earth & Environmental Sciences, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamsala ,in association with Indian Geological Congress, Roorkee is organising Pan-India debating competition on the topic “Role of Earth Sciences in Preventing Environmental Degradation”. The Indian Geological Congress had first such competition on September 13, 2014 at Department of Geology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, where most of the Indian University from Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha, took part in the competition. The School of Earth & Environmental Sciences, Central University of Himachal Pradesh also approached to the Indian Geological Congress (IGC) with request to hold such competition. This will be second in series out of five, sponsored by Ministry of Earth Sciences for the development of young research scholar and post graduate students in the field of Earth and Environmental Sciences for their personality and skill development.
The coordinator of this competition , Prof. Dr. A.K. Mahajan ( Dean School of Earth & Environmental Sciences, CUHP) said, “ the convenor will be Dr. Ankit Tondon, Assistant Professor Department of Environmental Sciences.”
A total of 16 participants (02 participants from each university/institution) from IIT- Delhi, IIT- Roorkee, University of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir will likely to take part in the competition. Each participant will be given only 15 minutes to express thought on the above mentioned topic. There will be three prizes valued of Rs. 8000/-, 7000/- and 6000/- for 1st, 2nd and 3rd winner as revealed by Prof. AK Mahajan, Dean School of Earth & Environmental Sciences.
Dr. Mahajan said that program will began with lighting of the auspicious lamp by Chief Guest Prof. Y.S. Verma, Vice-Chancelor, CUHP and then followed by Saraswati Vandana. The executive president of Indian Geological Congress will preside the function.
