Kangra,18 March – The Department of Environmental Sciences, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Central University of Himachal Pradesh is organizing two days National Conference on Implications of Climate change on Himalayan Region on 20 and 21st March 2014. Prof. Timothy A Gonsalves, Director, IIT Mandi will inaugurate the workshop. During this workshop number of eminent scientists and academicians are expected to deliver their research on climate change especially from Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology Dehra Dun, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Indian Institute of Remote sensing, Dehra Dun, National Institute of Hydrology, Rookree , Central Scientific and Industrial Organization Chandigarh, Central University Garhal, Jammu University, IIT Bombay, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, Birbal Sahni Institute of Paleobotany, Lucknow, GB Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development, Almora, Kumaon University India Metreology Department, Chandigarh and Central University of Himachal Pradesh. The conference will focus on five major themes i.e. Observation on present climate change, Impact of climate on Biodiversity, Himalayan Tectonics and its effects on Climate change, effects of climate change on Himalayan Glaciers and Investigations on paleoclimate conditions. The topic starting from status of ozone column decline over Indian region to role of western disturbance in Himachal Pradesh, climatic shift over the past 15,000 yrs and estimating glacier surface melting and much more will be dealt during this conference. The interaction of scientists and academicians with students will have long lasting effect for the research and academic development of the University.
