Originating from Shimla’s Ridge, and flagged of by the Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh Acharya Devvrat , the Mini Olympics Torch reached Una yesterday on its way to Hamirpur, where the Mini Olympic games will be held from the 22nd to the 25th June 2017. It reached the Indra Maidan at about 6 in the evening. Olympian Deepak Thakur took over the Torch from the bearer K S Vastu, and carried it to the city’s Municipal corporation parking lot, about one thousand students of Una participated in this run. The Torch was received by the President of the local Olympic Association, Mr Sumit Sharma, along with the MLA of the Kutlehad region Sh Virendra Kanwal and the local populace of the city. Mr Sumit Sharma informed the gathering that competitions in various sports disciplines like, Volleyball, Wrestling, Kho-kho, Athletics, Hockey, Boxing etc. would be taking place during these games, and that there is a likely hood of more than 14oo competitors of national and international repute, who will be participating in this event. Students from SSRVM ,Vashisht Public, Scholars Unified, Mount Everset, DAV Public, schools of Una participated in the run. It was further made known that the Torch, from Una, on its way to Hamirpur, will traverse through Daulatpur Chowk, Nurpur, Kangra, Jogindernagar, Kullu, Mandi, Sundernagar, Bilaspur, and Nalagarh, after a journey of almost 13oo Kms. Incidentally these games are being held after a gap of thirteen years.
