(Shimla, August 8, 2016) Governor Acharya Devvrat today inaugurated Van Mahotsava organized by State Red Cross in collaboration with the Forest department. He planted a sapling at sector 1, New Shimla. Lady Governor Smt. Darshana Devi was also present on the occasion.
On the occasion, Governor stressed on planting more and more saplings to increase the green cover of the State and said that more than 5000 saplings would be planted upto the end of September this year with the help of Forest department by Red Cross. Students of various schools would be involved in this plantation drive to bring awareness among the masses.
Acharya Devvrat said that the special awareness campaign would also be launched throughout the State to aware the people about environmental protection and to ensure their participation, under which clusters of five villages would be formed in the State where the plantation drive would be undertaken on massive scale on special occasions like birthdays, marriage anniversaries, etc.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Shri S.P. Vasudeva, Executive Members of State Red Cross, Officers of District Administration and Forest Department, school children and other prominent people of the area also joined the plantation drive.
