While presiding over the ‘Medhavi Chhatr Samman Samaroh’ organised by vernacular daily Amar Ujala here today, Governor Acharya Devvrat appealed the students not to forget human values while pursuing their studies..
The Governor has expressed concern over decline in human values ?? in today’s society. He said we are producing degree holders without these qualities which should reflect in their personality. He stressed teachers should inculcate the moral values in the students to make their successful citizens of the nation.
He said that it was a matter of great pride for him to honour the students who had achieved excellence and stood in merit, in the tenth and plus two examinations conducted by the State Education Board. He hoped that award-winning students would continue to progress at the same pace and to bring glory to the State as well as the Country.
He also expressed happiness over the fact that girl students were more in numbers among award winning students and said education of girls was very important in building a strong and healthy society.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh said enough expansion has been made in the education sector and now there is a need to transform the quality of education. The education being imparted should not be merely for the sake of simply communicating but assessments are needed to measure progress in learning and make the current levels visible in a way that can be understood widely.
He said time has come to undertake new reforms in education sector for making it more efficient and qualitative. Children should have access to ample amount of research papers, books and other resources so that they could be made aware of different perspectives on a single topic to help them making their own opinion according to the understanding. More efforts should be made by the teacher to understand a child’s mindset, stressed the Chief Minister.
He said that Himachal Pradesh has been recently adjudged as the best big State in higher education sector leaving Kerela State behind. Many educational institutions have been opened in the far flung areas of the State. The sarva sikhsha abhiyaan and other government programmes along-with scholarship schemes are being implemented with sole agenda of ‘education to and for all’ but it is the quality education which needs focus, he said.
The Chief Minister lauded the efforts of the Amar Ujala group for awarding meritorious students of the State and making this an annual affair.
Senior Executive Editor, Amar Ujala Shri Uday Kumar Sinha welcomed and honoured the Governor and Chief Minister besides other dignitaries present on the dias.
As many as 142 students who topped in 10th and Plus two were honoured by the Governor and the Chief Minister on the occasion.
