Government committed for providing quality education to youth: CM

Dharmshala, Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh said that Himachal Pradesh had made rapid strides in the field of education and today it was amongst the leading states in the education sector. He said that the successive Congress governments in the State had always accorded top priority to creating adequate infrastructure for quality education to the students near to their homes and it was with this view that most of the educational institutes had been opened in the far-flung and remote areas of the State. Shri Virbhadra Singh was presiding over the function of Old Students Association of the P.G. Degree College, Dharamshala on Thursday
evening. He said when Himachal Pradesh came in to existence, there was
only one college in the State at Shimla and later when the hilly areas
of Punjab were merged to Himachal, one more college at Kangra got
added to the list. Today, there were 15 government colleges in Kangra
district alone whereas the State had a network of 85 colleges in the
government sector and most of them had been opened by the Congress led
He said that demand for opening more colleges and schools in the
different places were being raised by the people and government would
open more colleges and schools after considering their practicability.
The Chief Minister said that with a view to facilitate the girl
students to get the facility of education nearer to their homes and
tough topographical conditions of the rural areas, emphasis had been
laid at opening educational institutions in the remote and far-flung
areas of the State.
He congratulated the Old Students Association for organizing the
function adding that P.G Degree College Dharamshala was one of the
best degree colleges in the State which was imparting quality
The Chief Minister directed the public works department to complete
the construction work of college auditorium with in four months and
also assured to provide financial assistance for the science block of
the college.
Shri Kewal Singh Pathania, Vice Chairman H.P Forest Development
Corporation while welcoming the Chief Minister said that Himachal
Pradesh had made speedy development and progress under the the
leadership of Shri Virbhadra Singh. He also thanked the Chief Minister
for giving priority for the development of entire Kangra district.
