The Kangra police station continues to function from a century-old building, even after it has been declared unsafe for use by a committee comprising officials of the police, PWD and Finance Department.
The single-storey police station was rebuilt in 1912 after an earthquake destroyed the building in April 1905. The 105-year-old building houses two lock-ups, a malkhana to store office records, three rooms for interrogation and one room each for SHO and head constable. Its gates have stood the test of time and continue to guard the building. A few constables reside in the building. Their residential quarters located near the police station are also in a dilapidated condition.
